Meet Cathy Kohlbeck, Houses of Honor® Founder
A Mission Born from Listening to Veterans
Hi, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about Houses of Honor®. I’m so glad you’re here.
Fifteen years ago, my career in the mortgage industry connected me with the Vets4Vets group at UW–Green Bay. I attended one of their meetings with the intention of helping the group obtain gas cards for veteran students. Instead, I left with something far more meaningful — a deeper understanding of the challenges many veterans face when transitioning back to civilian life. Hearing the personal struggles shared that day ignited a calling in my heart to do more.
That experience also shaped my professional path. I committed myself to becoming a VA home loan expert and to continually striving to be the best in the industry when it comes to serving our veterans and helping them achieve homeownership.
Over the years that followed, I immersed myself in the veteran community — volunteering, listening, and building meaningful relationships. I attended events, spent time getting to know the veterans in our community, and continued asking one simple question: How can I help?
In 2016, that question led to the creation of Houses of Honor®.
The vision was simple but powerful: to create a trusted network of professionals committed to serving those who have served us. Businesses our heroes could rely on — professionals I would personally use and confidently recommend to my own family.
With the support of our dedicated Houses of Honor® Providers, the organization has continued to grow and expand its reach, allowing more community heroes to receive meaningful support, services, and recognition.
One of the ways we bring our community together each year is through our Salute to Service event, which has become our primary fundraiser. This event not only raises funds for local veteran organizations, but it also connects veterans with community organizations so they can learn about the benefits and resources available to them.
The impact of the connections made at this event has been life-changing for many veterans.
This event would not be what it is today without my husband, Kevin. He has truly become the powerhouse behind Salute to Service, helping organize, refine, and continually improve the event each year so it runs smoothly and continues to grow in its impact for our veteran community.
Outside of this mission, family is at the center of everything I do. Kevin and I have been married for over 21 years and are blessed with three adult children and three grandchildren. We love spending time together outdoors — especially fishing, paddle boarding, and enjoying the beautiful Wisconsin outdoors as a family.
Today, with the support of our Houses of Honor® Providers, board members, and our incredible Salute to Service committee, we continue working to expand our reach and serve even more community heroes.
Thank you for your service. Now it’s our turn to serve you.
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
